Bent Arrow to close two programs amid funding cuts
Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society will shut down two programs and pause upcoming community events in December because of funding cuts. The Kahkiyaw and Sacred Circle program contracts end in 2026, the organization said. The cuts are expected to affect more than 330 families. The Alberta government said some services may be delivered by different providers while overall funding for family intervention services remains unchanged.

Two teens were injured in a drive-by shooting in south Edmonton Thursday afternoon. The 15- and 16-year-old boys were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police said a boy has been charged and that the accused and victims know each other.
Premier Danielle Smith said federal interference prompted Alberta to roll back some Edmonton housing rules. Smith said the province reversed zoning changes Edmonton made in 2024 after Ottawa offered funding in exchange for rules that made multi-unit construction easier. Edmonton has been given three months to reverse the 2024 changes.
The Alberta Court of Appeal ruled that the federal Impact Assessment Act remains unconstitutional after a second court challenge. The court issued its 4-1 decision Friday, saying the revised law still infringes on provincial jurisdiction.

Two editions a day, 7:30am and 8pm Edmonton
time. The same brief you are reading: council and committee decisions, permits
and licences, police and emergency releases, courts, weather and sport —
every claim checked against its source, and anything we could not verify sent
as a headline and a link.
Before you flip this on
Alberta mode is a guy from Edmonton commenting on the news, and
the guy is a machine. One or two lines an item — what somebody
who has lived here his whole life would say reading it out to his mates.
It is not the story. The headline above each comment is
the real one, the source link below it goes to the real reporting, and the
plain edition is one click away. He is not summarising anything and he is
not a reporter; he is the guy at the shop with an opinion about it.
He swears when a sentence wants it. He is rude about council, developers,
the province, the weather, the roads and the Oilers, and never about the
people in the story. He holds about a dozen opinions that contradict each
other and he is fine with that.
Some of it will sit wrong anyway. When it does, that is on us and we
would rather hear it than not:
[email protected], and we will pull
the line.
Two things get no comment at all, and they are not
negotiable: anyone charged or before a court, who has a trial coming and is
entitled to have us stay out of it, and a suicide. Anything you need to ACT
on — a tip line, an advisory, an evacuation — keeps its full
text underneath the comment, because a phone number does not go behind a
joke.
The plain edition is the record, and it is
the default. It is one click away and it is where you should check
anything before you act on it.
