Privacy commissioner issues guidance on new Alberta ID information

Alberta’s information and privacy commissioner has issued guidance on personal information that will appear on new driver’s licences and identification cards. The province plans to begin issuing cards with personal health numbers and Canadian citizenship markers on July 2, 2026, when applicable. The guidance includes documents for the public, private-sector organizations and public bodies.
